SCRABBLE for iPad – Electronic Arts
I have always loved the Scrabble board game. I tried Scrabble on the iPad with a little bit of trepidation. I was afraid that it would not measure up to the board game or that it would be a very expensive clone of a very inexpensive game. I can happily report that it measured up and was worth the purchase. My reaction to it from the outset has been, “Wow!” It is a terrifically designed piece of software that is fun to play and that is visually entertaining.
I should have known that I would like the app. After all, it is from Electronic Arts and they seldom publish anything but the best software for all platforms. You can play against the computer, Facebook friends, other people on your wireless network, you can play an opponent by passing the iPad around or have a party mode that lets you play against opponents holding iPod Touches or iPhones with the free Scrabble Tile Rack App. I think this latter mode is overkill, but some people might like it.
I have tested only the man versus machine mode. I can honestly say that I am a very good Scrabble player. As such, I trounced the iPad version of the game three times in a row in the “Normal” difficulty mode. I then tried the “Hard” mode and was beaten by the computer by a score that was 50% higher than mine. This gives me two ways to play that should keep the game entertaining and fun. I did not bother to try the “Easy” mode.
Game play is done by touching the tiles and arranging them on the board. If you try to make a word that does not exist the software alerts you to it and lets you change the word. This makes it a little easier for someone to experiment since you do not lose a turn. By the way, you may also like the Stats feature. It shows you statistics on how you have done including your high score and number of wins.
I recommend this game wholeheartedly. You have to add this to your collection of iPad apps.
